Bell & Chime Choirs

Making Music Together, One Note at a Time
First Church is blessed to be home to a full five-octave set of Malmark handbells and a three-octave set of Malmark handchimes. These instruments were generously given by Ann Sabo and the late Frances Barry, as a gift to glorify God through the joyful sound of ringing.
The handbells are most often played by the Meetinghouse Ringers and Chapel Ringers, while the chimes provide a warm, alternate sound and are especially helpful for those just beginning to learn. Together, they open up rich possibilities for music in worship, from festive celebrations to moments of quiet reflection.

Meetinghouse Ringers

The Meetinghouse Ringers are First Church’s handbell choir, bringing a bright and distinctive sound to worship throughout the program year, including special services during Christmas, Lent, Easter, and All Saints’ Day. Handbells are a unique musical form, requiring a full team of 8–13 ringers working together — every player matters!
No prior experience is necessary, and we are always eager to welcome new members. While consistent attendance is important to keep the group strong, we do our best to be flexible with busy schedules. If you enjoy teamwork, rhythm, and the joy of making music together, the Meetinghouse Ringers may be a perfect fit.

Rehearsals: Tuesdays, 6:00–6:50 pm

Chapel Ringers

For those with more experience reading music, Chapel Ringers offers the chance to take handbell playing to the next level. This smaller ensemble explores advanced techniques and performs pieces written for 5-8 bells, adding depth and variety to our music ministry.
The group is open to all ages, from Grade 7 through adult, and provides a wonderful opportunity to grow musically while contributing to the beauty of worship.

Rehearsals: Tuesdays, 6:50–7:30 pm
