When we say that you are welcome here, we mean it. This is God’s house and we all belong to the body of Christ. At First United Church of Christ of Milford, our aim is to provide a place where every person is accepted and valued for who they are.

The Christian faith begins with the assurance that you are unconditionally and deeply loved by God. As a community, we seek to reflect that love by offering a safe and welcoming environment for all of God’s children, regardless of age, race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, ability, or background.

Whoever you are and wherever you are on life’s journey, you are welcome here!

Grace and peace.

Rev. Adam E. Eckhart, Senior Pastor

Here’s a summary of what you can expect on your first visit:

Arrive at First UCC of Milford

Our parking lot is located at 46 West Main Street in Milford and across the street from the main church building. We recommend arriving at least 15 minutes early for your first visit so we can welcome you and orient you to the space.

Come On In

If you are planning to attend our Chapel Service, please go to the Woodruff building at 18 West Main Street. If attending our Sanctuary service, enter the front door of our meetinghouse at 34 West Main Street. When you enter, you will be greeted by an usher who will give you a worship bulletin with details about the worship service and upcoming events. Feel free to ask the usher any questions you might have – they’re happy to help! You can then grab a seat anywhere you like in the worship space. We encourage folks to sit closer to the front.

Enjoy!

If you’ve never been to church before – that’s okay! Your worship bulletin will tell you everything you need to know to participate fully in the service. Our goal is for you to leave our worship services spiritually refreshed and uplifted, with an enhanced understanding of how much God loves you  and how you can  share that love with others.

Join Us for Coffee and Conversation

After worship, we hope you’ll join us for Coffee Hour in Fellowship Hall. It’s a relaxed time to enjoy a cup of coffee, meet new friends, and share in conversation about the life and ministries of First Church. Visitors are always welcome — it’s one of the best ways to get to know our community.

What should I wear?

There is no specific dress code – you are invited to come just as you are. If you are comfortable enough to walk around in public in what you are wearing, then you are dressed just fine!

Do I have to bring money for an offering?

No. You are our guest and there is no expectation that visitors contribute. If you choose to give, your gift will support the ministries of First UCC in Milford and the work we do in the wider community. Many people give online or by mail as well, so please know that your presence in worship is the most important offering you can bring.

Can I take communion?

Yes. At First UCC of Milford, everyone is welcome at Christ’s table. You do not need to be a member of the church or of any denomination to participate. We believe the bread and the cup are gifts of God’s grace, open to all who seek to follow Jesus’ way of love. We celebrate Communion at both the Chapel and Sanctuary services on the first Sunday of each month.

Are you one of those fire and brimstone churches?

No. At First UCC of Milford we believe God is love, and our worship reflects that. Our preaching and teaching are rooted in scripture, but always with an emphasis on grace, hope, and compassion. We are a welcoming church where questions are encouraged, faith is nurtured, and everyone is invited to experience God’s love.
