At First UCC Milford, baptism is at the heart of our life together. We celebrate baptisms almost every month, welcoming children, youth, and adults into the family of God. In baptism we give thanks for the gift of life, bless the one being baptized, and affirm the promises we make to God and one another as we grow in faith. With water gently sprinkled on the forehead, we honor Jesus’ own baptism at the start of his ministry, trusting that this outward sign points to the inward gift of God’s grace, love, and forgiveness.

Children and Adults Welcome

We believe it is right and good to baptize children, following Jesus’ invitation: “Let the children come, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.” Adults who have not yet been baptized are also invited to receive this sacrament of blessing and belonging.

Preparing for Baptism

Those seeking baptism — for themselves or a child — meet with one of our pastors before the service. Parents who are not members of First UCC Milford are asked to worship with us at least four times prior to the baptism. This allows families to get to know the congregation that will promise its love, support, and care for them and their child.

When Baptisms Happen

Baptisms are typically celebrated on the third Sunday of each month during our 10:00 AM worship service (9:30 AM in the summer). Dates may shift around holiday weekends such as Thanksgiving or Christmas.
