The Confirmation Ministry at First Church is a two-year journey for 8th and 9th graders to explore faith, ask questions, and prepare to affirm the promises of baptism. Together we engage scripture, connect faith to daily life, and grow into the joy and responsibility of Christian discipleship.

Guided by our pastors, Deacons, and Faith Formation leaders, students take part in learning, service, worship, and conversation. The process is hands-on and rooted in community, showing that faith is not just personal but something we live together.

On Confirmation Sunday, typically the first Sunday in May, those who complete the program — including a personal project and a conversation with the Deacons — may confirm their baptism. Through the laying on of hands, the congregation surrounds them with prayer and blessing, marking both a milestone of faith and the beginning of a lifelong journey of love and service.

Below you’ll find more about the focus of each year in the journey.

Confirmation Year 1

Led by our Minister of Faith Formation, Kelsey DeCarlo, Confirmation 1 takes students through the foundational stories of the Old Testament, helping them see how these ancient narratives still speak today. Along the way, confirmands gain a deeper understanding of Christian worship — not only its traditions and symbols, but also the meaning behind them — cultivating both knowledge and appreciation for the life of the church.

Confirmation Year 2

In Confirmation 2, Associate Pastor Rev. Ashley Grant leads sessions and faith practice events that invite teenagers to see Christian discipleship as more than just learning about faith. Together, they explore how following Jesus means both believing in God’s grace and love and putting that grace and love into practice. Through conversation, community, and shared experiences, students begin to discover what it looks like to live their faith in real and tangible ways.
