Candlelight Vigil of Remembrance and Peace

Monday, June 13, 2016 - In the wake of the tragedy in Orlando, the First United Church of Christ hosted a Candlelight Prayer Vigil of Remembrance and Peace.

We began by honoring our Muslim brothers and sisters as they broke their Ramadan Fast at sunset in our Sanctuary.

The vigil then moved to the front steps and lawn of our Church with a moving candlelight service.

We gathered to remember those who have been killed in Orlando and for those who are injured, some clinging to life. We prayed for their families, friends, and loved ones.

We prayed for the Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender Community, and other marginalized children of God, who are often targeted in the name of religion.

We came together to honor our Muslim sisters and brothers as they break their Ramadan fast and we lifted them up as others were choosing to blame Islam for this senseless tragedy.

We came together as an interfaith community, praying that all of God's people unite and call for an end to religious intolerance.

We came together to pray for peace in God's world, and for an end to violence and hate.
