Church, How You Have Always Imagined It Could Be!

Fall 2024
The First United Church of Christ is a faith community that is based on the idea that God's love encompasses all. There are four principles that grow out of that basic brings together four basic ideas:
We are an INCLUSIVE, CHILD AND YOUTH FOCUSED, SERVICE-ORIENTED, AND JOYFUL faith community!

1) Inclusive
We have long been an inclusive group of people, but several years ago we adopted an Open and Affirming (OnA) Covenant. That's our commitment to welcome and affirm all God's people—everyone: no exceptions or exclusions—but to hold each other to that affirming commitment. This inclusive and welcoming spirit starts as soon as people walk in the front doors of the church on Sunday morning, get greeted by people sitting near them, and when they go to coffee hour.

2) Child- and Youth-Focused
God's love is for all people of all generations, and First UCC Milford knows that starts with the youngest of people: kids and youth. The youngest among us need support and identity to maintain strong mental and spiritual health. We devote much of our work to ministries such as nursery care, Sunday school, youth groups, and ways for parents to feel supported and connected, too.

3) Serviced-Oriented
Jesus didn't say to only take care of yourself, he said to serve God by serving neighbors. First UCC Milford fulfills that commitment by running three major outreach programs:
a) Milford Food 2 Kids, which provides weekend meals for over 200 local food-insecure kids throughout the schoolyear;
b) Food Pantry, which provides bags of food and other staples to over 50 families or individuals each month;
c) Emma Davis Medical Equipment Ministry, which loans out medical equipment for free.
We also partner with Beth El Center, Milford's homeless and advocacy center and soup kitchen, along with many other initiatives.

4) Joyful!
We take very seriously how much fun and joy we share! Our Christian faith inspires us to praise God and give thanks for our blessings through touching music, lively children's messages, and the engaging and relevant sermons of our pastors, Revs. Adam and Ashley. We do take the time to recognize sorrow and strife in the world and in our lives, but we seek above be always grounded in the joy of Easter hope.
