Five Years of Open and Affirming Covenant!

Sunday, June 2, 2024--8:00 and 10:00 AM Worship
In early June 2019, First UCC made a substantial commitment in its mission and public witness by overwhelmingly voting to adopt its Open and Affirming covenant.

The covenant welcomes and affirms "people of any age, cognitive or physical ability, culture, ethnicity, family structure, gender, gender identity or expression, marital status, nationality, race, sexual orientation, socio-economic standing, or spiritual tradition — no exceptions, no exclusions." As a covenant, the document is also a commitment amogn the congregation "to extend an extravagant welcome to all to participate fully in the life of our church".

Over the past five years, we have made strides in fulfilling our covenant, speaking out in matters of racial justice, LGBTQIA+ rights, advocating for people with neurodiversity, and taking part in many other initiatives. We continue to learn how to live into our covenant and address our own limitations as God's imperfect children.

On June 2, we mark a significant milestone of having been Open and Affirming for FIVE YEARS. That morning's worship will reflect the growth and growing pains of being OnA through social turmoil and a pandemic, and how affirmation can transform all of us. We hope you can celebrate our covenant and our ongoing fulfillment of it on June 2!
